This painting is the first that went beyond hyperrealism. Accustomed to controlling my hand, my mind and my technique, I decided I needed to release that anchor and let my hand and the paint flow freely through space.
What began as an idea to create a fluid painting ended up becoming an inner search that gave rise to this image in the form of a spine. My intention was to break that spine, to let go of control over space and allow a freer part of my art to emerge. Axis is the image of that spine — expanding, and wanting to expand.
