How It Works: My Process for Creating Custom Artwork
So, you’re thinking about getting a custom portrait or artwork? That’s amazing! Whether it’s a graphite drawing, a colored pencil piece, or a painting in acrylic or oil, I’m here to make sure you get exactly what you have in mind (or even better!).
Now, let me walk you through how everything works—from choosing the right reference photo to receiving your finished artwork, safe and sound, at your doorstep.
Now, let me walk you through how everything works—from choosing the right reference photo to receiving your finished artwork, safe and sound, at your doorstep.
Steps to Commission Your Custom Artwork
Step 1: Choosing the Perfect Reference & Details
The most important thing to start? A high-quality reference photo! The better the photo, the better the details I can capture. Along with that, I’ll need:
✔️ The size you’d like for your drawing or painting.
✔️ The medium you prefer (graphite, colored pencils, acrylic, oil).
✔️ A deadline, if you have one—because let’s be real, some gifts have a ticking clock!
If you’re unsure about anything (size, medium, whether your photo works, or anything else), just ask! I’m happy to guide you through the options.
Step 2: Selecting the Best Materials
Now, let’s talk about what your artwork will be created on! Every piece deserves the best foundation, so I carefully choose the right materials for each type:
🎨 For graphite or colored pencil drawings: I use high-quality paper (at least XXXX gsm) that holds details beautifully and works perfectly with shading and blending.
🖌️ For acrylic or oil paintings: I prepare a stretched canvas or a wooden panel, applying at least two layers of primer and sanding to make sure the paint adheres smoothly and lasts for years.
Each choice affects the final look and feel of the artwork, and I’m happy to help you decide what suits your vision best!
Step 3: Time to Create! But Do You Want Sneak Peeks?
Once the sketch is ready, I roll up my sleeves and get to work! Now, here’s the fun part—you get to choose:
🔹 Surprise me! Some people love the excitement of a big reveal and prefer to wait until the artwork is fully finished.
🔹 Show me the process! If you’d like to see how things are coming along, I can send you regular progress updates. Even if it’s just a small detail I worked on that day, I’ll share it so you can follow along!
Whatever works best for you, I’m happy to do it! I just want you to love the process as much as the final piece.
Step 4: The Final Touch & Your Approval
Once your drawing or painting is finished, I’ll send you a photo of the completed piece (without my signature yet!). Why? Because I want to make sure you’re 100% happy with it before I add my final touch!
Wenn alles für dich perfekt aussieht, signiere ich es – und dann geht’s weiter zum letzten Schritt.
Step 5: Payment & Shipping—Making Sure It Arrives Safely!
Alright, time to send your artwork home! Depending on what you ordered, the shipping process will be a little different:
✉️ For drawings (graphite or colored pencil):
- Mounted on a sturdy wooden board to keep it safe.
- Wrapped in protective plastic to avoid any damage.
- Shipped in a rigid cardboard envelope, just like a special letter!
🎨 For paintings (acrylic or oil on canvas): I will find the best way to protect it and send it in the best condition:
Step 6: Tracking & The Final Countdown!
Now, how long will it take to arrive? Well, that depends on where you live, but don’t worry—I always send everything with a tracking number so we can keep an eye on it.
Confession time: I check my shipments almost daily, so don’t be surprised if I send you a message when it’s getting close! (What can I say? I get excited seeing my artwork travel to its new home!)
